Lost-Resin Burnout Master Patterns

Detailed castable resin patterns for investment casting, produced directly from a supplied 3D model.

Printed using a specialist castable resin formulated and marketed by its manufacturer for clean burnout, these high-detail patterns can be invested and burned out as part of a suitable lost-resin casting workflow.

What the pattern is

A resin master that replaces the conventional wax pattern.

A lost-resin master pattern is a physical 3D-printed pattern intended to be invested and removed during an appropriate casting process. It performs a similar role to a traditional wax pattern, but it is a specialist castable photopolymer resin rather than wax.

Potential applications

Suitable projects are assessed individually.

Potential uses include jewellery patterns, medallions, badges, emblems, small sculptures, ornaments, gaming and display pieces intended for metal casting, artistic casting projects and prototype components.

  • Guaranteed reproduction of extremely fine or unsupported detail.

File-to-pattern process

The supplied model remains the basis of the quotation.

Useful enquiry information includes STL, OBJ or another agreed printable format, intended finished dimensions, quantity, deadline, intended metal and casting method where known, and any foundry-specific requirements.

The customer or foundry should identify requirements relating to sprue attachment points, shrinkage compensation, minimum wall thickness, hollowing, drainage, orientation, surface finish, burnout schedule, investment compatibility and casting tolerances.

Revised files may require a revised quotation. Forge + Filament Workshop is not automatically responsible for engineering the complete casting tree or compensating for metal shrinkage unless separately agreed in writing.

Pricing and minimum order

Two distinct order-level charges.

Lost-resin print orders start from £15, plus a £2.50 administration fee. Final pricing depends on the size, complexity, preparation requirements, quantity and total material required for the pattern.

The £15 minimum applies to the overall print-production order and is not necessarily charged separately for every individual pattern. Several small patterns may be grouped into one production order where appropriate.

Final quotations may reflect model size, resin consumption, supports and orientation, complexity, fragility, handling and cleanup, reasonable failure allowance, file preparation or repair, quantity, packaging and fulfilment requirements.

Manufacturer-formulated for clean burnout, not guaranteed casting.

The resin used is formulated and marketed by its manufacturer for clean burnout in investment-casting applications. Successful casting depends on the complete casting workflow, including pattern preparation, investment material, burnout schedule, kiln performance, flask preparation, metal selection and pouring conditions.

Forge + Filament Workshop cannot guarantee the outcome of casting work completed by a customer or third-party foundry.

Give this schedule to the intended foundry before ordering. It is the material manufacturer’s current published burnout programme for the castable-resin pattern supplied by Forge + Filament Workshop.

Before the kiln cycle

  • Ensure the printed pattern is thoroughly cleaned.
  • Ensure it is completely dry before post-curing and investment.
  • Ensure it has been fully UV post-cured.
  • Use an investment material suitable for castable-resin patterns.
  • Preheat the kiln to 50°C before placing the flask inside.

This service is not yet available for general orders. Materials, supported model types, maximum dimensions, finishes, pricing and production times will be confirmed after testing has been completed.

No. The resin is manufacturer-formulated for clean burnout, while final results depend on the complete casting workflow.
