Sending a query does not create an order, contract or confirmed commission. A commission exists only when the scope, price and practical arrangements have been expressly agreed.
1. Scope
These terms explain the general basis on which The Forge + Filament Workshop considers and carries out ABS-like resin printing and Lost-Resin Burnout Master Pattern commissions. Any specific written agreement takes priority where it expressly differs from this page.
2. Enquiries and acceptance
Each project is considered individually. The workshop may accept, decline or request changes after reviewing the supplied information and files. No work begins merely because a form or email has been submitted.
A commission is accepted only when the material, quantity, scale, finish, price, expected timescale and collection or postage arrangements have been agreed.
3. Age and authority
A person arranging and paying for a commission must be at least 18 years old or act with the involvement and permission of a parent or legal guardian. The person submitting files confirms that they have authority to request the work.
4. Current services
Current production includes ABS-like resin printing at 0.03 mm or 0.05 mm layer heights and Lost-Resin Burnout Master Patterns printed in specialist castable resin.
Filament printing remains a planned capability. Finecast Metal is experimental, currently in testing and not available for general orders.
5. Lost-Resin Burnout Master Patterns
The lost-resin service supplies a printed castable-resin master pattern only. It may include basic file inspection, orientation, support preparation, printing, washing, manufacturer-appropriate post-processing, suitable support removal, basic visual inspection and protective packaging.
It does not automatically include CAD design from scratch, extensive repair or remodelling, jewellery design, mould making, sprue-tree engineering, investment preparation, burnout, metal casting, metal cleanup, polishing, plating, hallmarking or guaranteed reproduction of extremely fine or unsupported detail.
Metal casting is not included. The customer or their chosen foundry remains responsible for investment, burnout, casting and metal finishing.
6. Lost-resin pricing
Lost-resin orders are subject to a £15 minimum print-production charge and a separate £2.50 administration fee. The lowest standard order total is therefore £17.50 before postage, CAD work, extensive file preparation and other separately quoted services.
The £15 minimum applies to the overall print-production order and is not necessarily charged separately for each individual pattern. Several small patterns may be grouped where appropriate.
The £2.50 administration fee normally applies once per customer order unless the work is divided into separate production requests.
7. General pricing and quotations
A price is provided only after enough information has been supplied. Quotes may reflect estimated resin use, supports and orientation, complexity, fragility, reasonable failure allowance, file preparation or repair, support removal, cleanup, quantity, packaging and fulfilment.
Standard ABS-like resin orders are subject to a £5 minimum print-production charge and a separate £2.50 administration fee. The lowest standard order total is therefore £7.50 before postage, extensive file work and other separately quoted services.
For standard ABS-like resin enquiries, an optional maximum budget entered through the form must be at least £7.50, reflecting the £5 minimum print-production charge and separate £2.50 administration fee. For lost-resin enquiries, any supplied maximum budget must be at least £17.50 because that is the minimum standard order total before delivery and additional work.
Postage, CAD work, extensive file preparation and other optional services are quoted separately. No payment is due until the commission and payment arrangements have been agreed.
8. Submitted and revised files
A quotation is based on the submitted version of the model. Revised files, changed dimensions, altered quantities or new foundry requirements may require a revised quotation, timescale or feasibility assessment.
9. Lost-resin file and casting requirements
The customer should provide the intended finished dimensions, quantity, deadline and, where known, intended casting metal, foundry, casting method, wall-thickness requirements and foundry-specific instructions.
The customer or foundry is responsible for communicating requirements relating to sprue attachment points, sprue design, shrinkage compensation, hollowing, drainage, orientation, surface finish, burnout schedule, investment compatibility, pattern dimensions and metal-specific tolerances.
Forge + Filament Workshop is not automatically responsible for engineering a complete casting tree or compensating for metal shrinkage unless separately agreed in writing.
10. Burnout and casting disclaimer
The resin used is formulated and marketed by its manufacturer for clean burnout in investment-casting applications. Successful casting depends on the complete casting workflow, including pattern preparation, investment material, burnout schedule, kiln performance, flask preparation, metal selection and pouring conditions.
Forge + Filament Workshop cannot guarantee the outcome of casting work completed by a customer or third-party foundry. A completely ash-free burnout, zero residue, universal foundry compatibility or successful final casting is not guaranteed.
Customers and foundries should follow the resin manufacturer’s current preparation and burnout guidance. Burnout requirements may differ from those used for conventional casting wax.
The current material manufacturer’s published six-hour programme uses the following target temperatures: 50°C at the start, 150°C at one hour, 371°C at two hours, 732°C from hours three through five, and 510°C at hour six. The manufacturer recommends preheating the kiln to 50°C before placing the flask inside. The full schedule is published on the Lost-Resin Burnout Master Patterns page and in the FAQ.
11. Foundry compatibility
Customers are responsible for confirming that their chosen foundry accepts castable resin patterns and can use an appropriate resin-specific burnout schedule before approving an order.
12. Model availability and intellectual property
The person supplying a model, image or design confirms that they own it or hold the necessary permission or licence for the intended reproduction and use. Commercial-use declarations must be accurate where the pattern or resulting casting will be used commercially.
A request marked “Model required — discussion needed” is not ready for production until an appropriate model and permitted use have been established. A request marked for rights review is not treated as authorised until the relevant rights have been reviewed.
13. File assessment and preparation
Files may be checked for scale, wall thickness, geometry, supports, orientation, drainage and likely failure points. Basic preparation may be included, while extensive repair, remodelling, CAD work or bespoke casting preparation may incur a separate charge.
14. Print characteristics and dimensional tolerances
Additive manufacturing is not identical to machining, injection moulding or traditional pattern production. Patterns may show minor layer evidence, support contact marks, drainage features, surface variation and reasonable dimensional tolerances.
Castable resin may exhibit material and post-processing shrinkage. The workshop does not guarantee metal-specific shrinkage compensation unless this has been separately agreed.
Fine detail remains subject to printable resolution, physical support requirements and the strength of the uncured and cured geometry.
15. Fragile patterns and handling
Burnout master patterns may be fragile. Protective packaging is selected according to the pattern, but customers and foundries must handle the delivered pattern carefully. The workshop is not responsible for damage caused after delivery by unsuitable handling, storage, spruing, transport by another party or foundry preparation.
16. Test pieces
A test pattern may be recommended for unusual, high-value, especially fragile or technically uncertain projects. A test does not guarantee the outcome of the complete casting workflow.
17. Resin cleaning and curing
Resin prints are cleaned using methylated spirits, clean isopropyl alcohol and a final water rinse before drying and UV curing. Detailed operating durations remain internal workshop processes.
18. Failures and unsuitable results
Workshop print failures that are not supplied as completed items are not charged as finished items. A reasonable normal-failure allowance may be reflected in the quotation. Repeated failures may lead to a recommendation to revise, rescale, reorient, split or cancel the pattern.
19. Required dates, capacity and changes
Standard requested dates must normally be at least fourteen calendar days away. Priority requests may be considered from seven days, subject to capacity and any separately agreed charge.
Changes requested after acceptance may affect price, preparation and timescale.
20. Postage and collection
Postage and packaging are additional and confirmed separately. Where collection is selected, the collection location, date and time are confirmed during the subsequent email discussion.
21. Cancellation
A request may normally be withdrawn before production starts. Once file preparation, support work, printing or other agreed production has begun, completed work, consumed material and non-recoverable cost may need to be taken into account.
Nothing in these terms removes or overrides statutory consumer rights.
22. Finecast Metal — experimental service
Finecast Metal is an experimental service currently undergoing testing. Information displayed before launch, including potential materials, applications, dimensions, finishes, lead times and pricing, is provisional and may be changed or withdrawn. General commercial availability is not guaranteed.
Submitting an expression of interest or potential test project does not create an obligation for Forge + Filament Workshop to accept, manufacture or successfully cast the submitted design.
23. Merchandise and the Printify Pop-Up Store
Official workshop merchandise is offered separately through the Forge + Filament Workshop Printify Pop-Up Store. Merchandise purchases are not resin commissions and do not provide commission priority, discounts or preferential treatment.
Printify hosts the Pop-Up Store and handles checkout/payment processing, on-demand production, shipping and first-line customer support through its fulfilment network. Forge + Filament Workshop remains the merchant of record and seller for Pop-Up Store sales.
Merchandise orders are subject to the storefront terms and the current Printify order, support, refund and return policies in force at the time of purchase. Nothing in this section removes or limits statutory consumer rights.
Printify Pop-Up Store transactions are currently processed in United States Dollars (USD). This currency setting is controlled by Printify and is outside Forge + Filament Workshop's control.
24. Safety, liability and statutory rights
Unless expressly agreed, prints and patterns are not certified for food contact, medical use, protective equipment, electrical safety, load-bearing use, children’s toys or safety-critical applications.
The workshop does not exclude liability where exclusion would be unlawful. Nothing in these terms limits statutory consumer rights.
25. Privacy, optional support and contact
The website prepares enquiry information locally in the browser and does not submit the form to a server. Correspondence begins when the customer sends the prepared email.
Voluntary support contributions are separate from commission payments and provide no goods, services, priority or entitlement. Merchandise purchases are also separate from commissions and are handled through the external Printify Pop-Up Store.
